Authentics General Lee -W- Pics! Here are some pics of the Ertl Authentics General Lee. Odd that the doors don’t open on this car, which is a shame, since it makes it harder to appreciate the interior. (and there is no reason they can’t open- they do on the other Authentics ’69 Charger) For the purists out there It bears mentioning that while the car is portrayed as having the doors welded shut, in fact the cars did not have welded doors. I lived down the street from the transportation coordinator for the show when they were filming the early seasons in Covington, GA. And know this firsthand. The color is right on the money, (it actually is a GM color used on the Corvette) and the tampos are superb. The interior looks nicer than it does in these pics. My only quibbles are:
1) The roll cage- The General Lee had a roll bar, not a full cage. (Though you can be sure the cars they jumped had cages)
2) The license plate color is too yellow. (The one on the back) Georgia plates of the era are white with red numbers/letters. I know this to be the case not just from my memory of the show, but also by the GA. plates on my 1:1 Land-Rover I owned at the time (it should also say “Georgia" next to "76")
3) The brush guard/push bar on the front sits too far forward. This seems to be the case on all the ones I’ve seen, not just my car. It is made of plastic; so I’m considering heating mine a bit to get the right look.
4) I guess Ertl couldn’t get the licensing from American Racing, because there are no logos on the wheel center caps. Also, Wheels should not be chrome
5) It would have been nice if they would have put the Crossed confederate & checkered flags behind the rear window as depicted in the first season of the show, but I suppose the car is better known without them…
All in all I’m quite fond of it, and recommend it highly. I mean, it’s no CMC, but it is as good an offering as Ertl has produced; and really a bargain for the level of detail you get. Kind of makes me sorry I didn’t buy the 1:1 General Lee (with title listing Warner Bros. as the owner) from my neighbor back in 1982 for $4,000. Oh, well…
Enjoy,
-Charlie.

Looks good! I would get one, but it doesn't fit in any of my collections. From the pics, it shouldn't be too hard to fix the bumper guard.
