Bourne Identity Mini. Hello All,
This is my first post here and I wnated to show a Custom built I did a few years back of the Mini Cooper used in The Bourne Identity.
I'm sure most of you have seen the Movie "The Bourne Identity with Matt Damon. For those who haven't, you should, you won't be dissapointed.
Years after watching the movie I started thinking on how to make a good model on the Bounrne Identity for my Mini collection. I knew the best model to start with was the Soido British Open Mini.
It took a while but finally I got a spare model to work with. The project was postponed until I got out of classes and final exams.
The first thing I did was to work on the interior. In the movie I spotted 2 different interiors, the one on the Mayfair and the half leather Cooper Injection one. I decided to do the Half leather Cooper which is the one that is seen more often on the movie.
The model was a RHD so using a x-acto knife and sandpaper, the original 2 clock dash was removed and the pocket was made. This was replaced by the 3 clock dashboard that now goes in the left as well as the steering wheel.
Also the right front wheel arche was removed as in real car.
The Wood & Pickett bumper bars were made by bending paper clips and lot's of patience. I spent almost 1 hour and a half to get the desired results.
Finally, I made the fog light from scratch as the model didn't had one.
Also the Body was painted red using the Testors 1103 Red and the wheels were painted in black.
After letting the paint dry, the next step was to start painting the flat black parts aswell as the right fender in black and I started to do some "rust" trials.
The model didn't had any mirrors, yet I wanted to have mirrors. So I started experimenting with styrene sheets and after 2 hours I managed to obtain 2 mirrors. I had to open a hole in each door to hold the mirrors.
The final pictures before is finnished. I mainly worked on add some rust to the mini based on the images I got from the movie. I also took the front badge from a picture and I cleaned it on the computer and printed it to scale. The license plates were made using the same technique.
The grey patches on the fender differ from car to car in the movie. The ones are painted in the car were based from an actual picture.
And here it is, the model finished!
I worked on it for around 30 hours, and it was worth it! It was quite a challenge and I am really happy with the results.
Here's what appeared on Mini World August 2005.
