Canam Models Does anyone collect Canam models at all?

I like the unusual such as Chaparrals, the very good looking ones such as the Penske/Sonoco Lolas, and anything Porsche. The rest only if the price is really right.

I'm with you there although the M8D McLaren and even the unsuccessful Wolf Dallara looked like real racing cars. It is very difficult getting either than Marsh Models, especially down here in Australia. It is great that Spark are now doing them as well as Minichamps.

Agreed. Now that manufacturers have run out of the more common cars, they are making models of some of the more unusual -- and one offs. You can make a Porsche 911 mold and, by putting different dacals on it, have many different models. Not necessarity so with the CanAm cars.

I collect Can Am models. I have 82 pcs, mainly Marsh handbuilts but some of the Minichamps McLarens as duplicates of the Marsh. McLaren orange is very difficult to get right. I think the Minichamps are too light and the GMP orange is almost flourescent. Very bad.
IMHO Marsh got it closest.
Also have GMP, Exoto and Minichamps 1:18 Can Am.
On a related subject I have a collection of every Chaparral with models by Marsh, Esdo and Minichamps in 1:43. Also a few Exoto and Autoart in 1:18. I love to sit the Chaparrals side by side and see the evolution of Jim Hall's genius.

CanAm: Your'e talking my language! I have a 1:18 Exoto and GMP collection of over 25 cars -since there's only a few of those I don't have I have started collecting Spark and Minichamps in 1:43rd scale-these are well detailed for a manufactured model, and it looks like Spark will be bringing us quite a few more judging by the announcement at the Toy Show in Germany.

I mixed my own using Floquil Model Railroad colors. They are flat so they require several clear coats. Only works if you are a kit builder, obviously.

Re: Canam Models Does anyone collect Canam models at all?
Reply to AussieHacques question, is yes I believe a lot of collectors are out there both in the 1/43rd and 1/18th and some odd scales from Europe, such as Marsh, Amalgam, original Solido and one or two specialty buiders (limited to three or four and expensive..Forsa, I had a 312B Can-Am and now I have a 333SP). What we should be asking is why did Exoto have people sign up for there Can-Am edition in both 1/18th and 1/43rd and never delivered any 1/43rd to date....cannot get Tony to answer Why, maybe more of us should send him a request of, "why no 1/43rd Can-Am's todate"?
Agree Spark/Minichamps attempting to bridge the gap (Minichamps color is definitley way off..to yellow and they have admitted it)
It would also be nice if GMP reintroduced there 1/43rd scale Can-Am versions of the McLarens...nicely detailed.
Maybe if enough people request GMP to re-introduce and it is profitable they might...all the molds and patterns still exist, when I called in early 2006.

GMP responded to my inquiry about continuing the McLarens; appar\raently the licensing cost from McLaren has more than doubled, making it unprofitable for them to contiunue. If McLaren wants so much money for their licensing then they should market their own line of diecast model IMHO!!!

David,
Thanks....McLaren must need money to pay there $100 million fine and have got greedy. Feel they can go to any lenghts for licensing...very short sighted just like HotWheels with there Ferrari deal.
All this greed just hurts everyone across the board who would like to produce a model replica for collectors to enjoy.
Agree they should approach someone to make for them.....maybe Exoto could really get a deal for the 1/43rd Can-Am McLarens????

First timer here. Really excited about the Can-Am cars released by Spark.
The M6A/B McLaren provides the opportunity for so many different cars from the Can-Am and European Interseries races. Actually, I'm surprised that Minichamps didn't follow up with other M8 cars. With there M8D and F cars they could've made the Motschebacher cars,Greg Young
/Francois Cevert cars..the list goes on.
Any leads on Lolas? Have the Best and GMP cars (all T-70's), but any T-160/2/3/5 cars. T-260's?
